Why should young players participate in Futsal?
Futsal is paramount to developing technical ability and quick decision making. This five-a-side game is played in a small pace without the use of walls which forces players to control the ball under high pressure.
How does Futsal translate to an 11-a-side match?
It is an incredibly fast paced game. There is a short window of opportunity and limited space which forces players to think quickly. In addition, a Futsal match consists of 20 minute halves. In this 40 minute match, researchers have found that a player receives the ball 6x more than they would in a 90 minute match.
The game of soccer has evolved. Now days, defenders have just as much ability as attackers. “The goal of this program is to equip all players with the mental and technical ability to succeed in soccer. My game had reached its peak until I stumbled upon Futsal and because of it’s fast pace, outdoor soccer was seemingly in slow motion.” - Eliel Pierre, AHFC Futsal Director.
“Futsal is an extremely important way for kids to develop their skills and understanding of the game. My touch and my dribbling have come from playing Futsal.”
- Ronaldinho, Brazil, FC Barcelona Legend
“As a little boy in Argentina, I played Futsal on the streets and for my club. It was tremendous fun, and it really helped me become who I am today”
- Lionel Messi, Argentina, FC Barcelona
“No time plus no space equals better skills. Futsal is our national laboratory of improvisation.”
– Dr Emilio Miranda, Professor of Soccer at University of Sao Paolo, Brazil
“During my childhood in Portugal, all we played was Futsal. The small playing area helped me improve my close control, and whenever I played Futsal I felt free. If it wasn’t for Futsal, I wouldn’t be the player I am today.”
- Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal, Real Madrid
“Football & Futsal have a lot in common … There are different tactics and moves, but there is the same essence of mastering the ball, combining and making quick decisions.”
- Andres Iniesta, Spain, FC Barcelona
“In Futsal players have to use both feet and it helps to develop their speed of thought and reactions. It also helps the players develop in transitional moments of the game.”
